| A Clothier's Grandson Avoids the Trap of Becoming Old Hat THE GOOD TIMES are rolling all over Manahttan. Real estate is rebounding, the stock market has vertigo, and the men's store that invented dicsount clothing is selling $1,000 suits. "We're not a discounter anymore," says Ken GIddon, who owns Rothman's of Union Square. After taking over his grandfather's store 12 years ago - a famous discounter then known as Harry Rothman's - Mr. GIddon has watched his bargain-conscious customers mature and get rich. "As I've grown up, so have my customers," he says. Still, Mr. Giddon is fretful. "I worry about geting older and losing touch," he says. Though only age 38, he worries, in short, about becoming his grandfather. |
